Sacks of Love is a non-profit testicular cancer organization. We focus on spreading awareness about testicular cancer, which is the most common cancer among young men. In 2012, 360 men in the United States alone died from this disease. However, when detected early it is usually not fatal. Spreading awareness and encouraging men to perform self-checks will lead to early detections and will save lives. Sacks of Love is also raising funds to donate to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the leading genital research facility in the world, and other medical facilities that help treat testicular cancer patients and provide support for testicular cancer survivors. Finally, Sacks of Love aims to create a community that connects men at all stages of testicular cancer. This community can offer support and guidance to dealing with a disease that many men are embarrassed or ashamed to talk about. Sacks of Love wants to use humor to end this negative stigma and create an environment where men are comfortable to share their experiences and get the resources that they need.
Sacks of Love was co-founded by Nicholas Ost and Christopher Utterback while they were seniors at Puyallup High School, to gain more attention for this disease. It is their belief that bringing humor to a delicate situation can help rally people around a cause. They aim to create an environment where survivors can more easily talk about their experiences without any embarrassment. Currently Sacks of Love is working on expanding their network to several college campuses to target the young audience and educate about early detection and prevention techniques. Our blog and other projects will create a network for survivors and patients to share their stories and advice with one another. Sacks of Love is committed to the community and wishes to lower the incidence of testicular cancer in the population by increasing awareness, educating and helping to fund the search for the cure.
